Measure the route.
Not just the aisle.
A forklift can fit inside an aisle and still fail at the approach, doorway, rack face or right-angle turn. Selection should follow the complete load route.

Review these points together before comparing models or accepting a configuration.
Clear aisle width
Measure between permanent obstructions at the narrowest point, including rack protection and columns.
Right-angle stacking
Truck length, load length and turning geometry work together. Ask for the required stacking aisle for the real pallet.
Door and crossing limits
Record door width and height, blind corners, pedestrian crossings, dock plates and traffic controls.
Surface and gradients
Floor joints, ramps, debris and transitions affect clearance, stability and manoeuvring—not only traction.
SEARCH ANSWER / FORKLIFT TURNING CIRCLE
Turning radius is one value.
The route is the real test.
Forklift turning radius, forklift turning circle and pallet jack turning radius are related search terms, but none equals the required right-angle stacking aisle by itself.
Turning radius
A truck geometry value used for comparison. It does not include every load and clearance factor.
Turning circle
A broader description of the space swept during a turn. Definitions may vary, so compare like with like.
Right-angle stacking aisle
The loaded manoeuvring space needed to enter or leave a pallet position at 90 degrees. Request it for the real pallet.
Narrowest clear width
Measure between guards, columns, racks or fixed equipment—not wall to wall.
Load length and overhang
Use the actual pallet or load, including any overhang beyond the fork tips.
Approach and exit
Include doors, crossings, end aisles, dock plates and the path after the turn.
Operating margin
Agree a practical clearance and confirm the proposed truck in the real or accurately mapped route.

Is turning radius the same as required aisle width?
No. Aisle requirement also depends on truck geometry, load dimensions, clearance and the specific manoeuvre.
Should I measure empty or loaded movement?
Measure the loaded route because the pallet or load can materially change turning and clearance needs.
What doorway dimensions matter?
Record clear width and height at the narrowest point, including guards, thresholds, ramps and overhead fittings.
Can a compact forklift solve every narrow-aisle problem?
No. Capacity, stability, lift height, operator position and the complete movement still need to be matched.
